Hello fellow anglers and welcome back to our regular Majestic Oaks RV Resort, fishing updates. It’s time to dip your fishing lines in the magnificent waters around Biloxi. This July, there’s plenty of action to look forward to, and here’s what you can expect.
In Season
1. Redfish: The red drum, or redfish as it’s locally known, is a mainstay in the Biloxi waters, and July is a fantastic time to catch them. Redfish is a year-round fish here, but the warmer weather tends to make them more aggressive and more fun to catch. Their fight can be exhilarating for both experienced and novice anglers. They’ve been biting on live bait, particularly shrimp and mullet, in the inlets and around piers.
2. Speckled Trout: As summer continues, speckled trout are also in their prime. Dawn and dusk are the best times to fish for them, especially in grassy areas and places with moving water. Live bait is always a hit with these beauties, but artificial bait such as soft plastics can also be effective. Remember, keep the noise to a minimum to maximize your chances of a big catch.
3. Flounder: July also marks a good time for flounder fishing in the Biloxi area. These flatfish are found around the Bay’s various inshore structures and sandy bottoms. Live minnows and squid have been particularly successful baits recently. Patience and a gentle touch are key when fishing for flounder.
Out of Season
1. Cobia (Ling): After an active spring, Cobia are now less common. Although you might still get lucky, please note that the regulations enforce a closed season beginning July 1st to give these populations a chance to rejuvenate.
2. King Mackerel: The King Mackerel, a favorite among many anglers for their fight and speed, are unfortunately off the menu this time of year. They will be back in fall, so keep those high-speed lures ready.
3. Sheepshead: These striped fighters are now less abundant as well. After a strong spring season, sheepshead are typically less common in the summer months.
In other news, don’t forget about the annual “Biloxi Big Catch” tournament coming up later this month. It’s a fun event for the whole family with categories for redfish, trout, and flounder. We hope to see you there!
Remember, while the fish are biting, we must respect the rules and regulations set to protect and conserve our fishing resources. Always ensure you have the correct and current Mississippi Saltwater Fishing License, and keep up with the bag and size limits.
Stay safe and tight lines, everyone! We’ll be back with another update soon. Happy fishing!
